Alternatives to WhatsApp Business API: Which One Is Right for You?

6 min read

If you've made it this far, you already know that WhatsApp Business has an API that lets you serve your customers in a more organized way, with multiple agents, campaigns, and even some automation. But you've also realized that it's not used directly: you need a provider to connect you.

The thing is, there are many of them, and each one targets a different type of business. This guide is for you to understand what each one offers, what it really costs, and which one suits you depending on your case. I'm not going to sell you snake oil: I'll tell you the good and the weak points of each one, and at the end I'll tell you what Wando does, which is the tool we developed.

Let's get started.

What is the WhatsApp Business API and why do you need a provider?

The WhatsApp Business API is Meta's official way for a business to use WhatsApp at scale: multiple agents, scheduled messages, approved templates, statistics. But it's not a button you press: you have to go through a solution provider (BSP) that gives you the connection, the interface, and the tools.

This is where the alternatives come in. Each provider solves the same thing (connecting you to the API) but with very different approaches. Some are for large teams, others for marketing, others for SMEs that just want to respond faster.

Prices, verified one by one

The prices and plans we mention were verified on wati.io, whaticket.com, cliengo.com, manychat.com, and botmaker.com on August 29, 2026. Always check the official site before deciding, because conditions change.

  • Wati Growth: US$45/month billed annually — 3 users and 500 active contacts, no option to add more.
  • Wati Pro: US$95/month — US$24 per additional user.

  • Whaticket free trial: 14 days.
  • Cliengo Starter: US$45/month — 2 users and 500 conversations.
  • Cliengo Premium: US$119/month — more volume and marketing features.

Wati: the global no-code

Wati is a global platform with a very polished no-code flow builder. If you need complex automations (a conversation that leads to a form, which triggers an email, etc.) and your business is large, Wati is a serious option.

The weak point: the entry plan does not allow additional users or contacts, so if you grow, you jump up a step. Support and the audience are designed for English, and payment is in dollars or euros. There is no free plan or trial, and the price of the entry plan is considerable for a small SME.

When to choose Wati? If you handle high volume, need advanced no-code automations, and your team works in English.

  • Strong: mature no-code flow builder, many integrations, product proven at international scale.
  • Weak: entry plan without flexibility, support in English, no free trial.

Whaticket: the shared inbox for teams

Whaticket is a multi-agent shared inbox, widely used in Latin America. If you have a team of several people handling the same WhatsApp number, Whaticket solves that simply: no one steps on another, everything is recorded.

The weak point: the minimum plan is for 3 users, so a one-person business pays for three. Automation is flow-based, not AI that understands free language. It has a 14-day trial, but no free plan.

When to choose Whaticket? If your priority is that a team handles things in an organized way, and you don't need AI to suggest responses.

  • Strong: shared inbox well resolved, designed for teams, support in LatAm.
  • Weak: minimum of 3 users, flow-based automation.

Cliengo: the multichannel chatbot to capture leads

Cliengo is an Argentine platform that started with chatbots on websites and now covers WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. If your main goal is to capture leads from your website and social networks, Cliengo has a very good web chatbot for that, with a basic CRM included.

The downside: the entry price is high if you only need WhatsApp, and the automation combines preprogrammed flows with an AI layer, it is not generative AI from the start. It has a 14-day trial, but no free plan.

When to choose Cliengo? If your business thrives on capturing leads on multiple channels and your budget allows it.

  • Strong: web chatbot for lead conversion, basic CRM, truly multichannel.
  • Weak: high entry price, flow-based automation with AI on top.

ManyChat: the king of Instagram and Messenger

ManyChat is a chat marketing tool, focused on Instagram and Messenger, with funnels and campaign automations. It has a real free plan (25 active contacts, 1 user), which is a great differentiator.

The downside: its center of gravity is Meta's networks, not WhatsApp as a customer service channel. It is designed for marketing funnels, not for a team to handle inquiries. The material and community are mostly in English.

When to choose ManyChat? If your engine is Instagram and Messenger campaigns, and you want to start for free.

  • Strong: real free plan, reference in Instagram/Messenger, low entry price.
  • Weak: WhatsApp is not the focus, not for customer service, material in English.

Botmaker: corporate power

Botmaker is an omnichannel conversational automation platform for medium and large companies. If you have high volume and multiple channels, Botmaker has the power and enterprise-level support.

The weak point: the smallest plan is among the most expensive on this list, and the complexity of the platform is the flip side of its power. For a small SME, it's like using a tractor to mow the garden grass.

When to choose Botmaker? If you are a large company with high volume and need a robust solution with dedicated support.

  • Strong: omnichannel power, accompanied onboarding, corporate presence in LatAm.
  • Weak: high price, complexity for SMEs.

Wando: the AI that learns from your team (and it's from here)

Okay, here's our part. Wando is an Argentine SaaS that uses AI to help you respond to WhatsApp Business, but with a twist: the AI suggests responses and your team approves them with one click. It doesn't respond on its own without supervision by default (although you can configure auto-responses by schedule if you want).

The real differentiator is that it learns from the responses your team gives and improves on its own. You don't have to program flows like in Wati or Whaticket: the AI understands free language and adapts to how you respond.

It starts with a 14-day free trial without a card, and plans range from an accessible entry price to an enterprise one. It also has integrations with Make, Zapier, n8n, Slack, Google Sheets, and Mercado Pago, and covers WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.

When to choose Wando? If you're a LatAm SME that wants to serve better on WhatsApp without going crazy programming flows, and you want the tool to learn from your team.

  • Strong: AI that learns from your responses, one-click human approval, local support, useful integrations, free trial without a card.
  • Weak: it's a young tool, doesn't have the global scale of Wati or the free plan of ManyChat.

There's no single answer: it all depends on your size, your budget, and whether your priority is to serve, automate, or capture leads. My advice: try the one with a free trial (Wando, Whaticket, and Cliengo have 14 days, ManyChat has a free plan) and see which one is most comfortable for your day-to-day. And if you want to check out Wando, go to wando.online and try it without entering your card.

Frequently asked questions

Do I absolutely need a provider to use the WhatsApp Business API?+

Yes, Meta does not let you connect directly. You need a Business Solution Provider (BSP) that gives you the connection and the tools. All the ones we mention here are BSPs or work with Meta's official API.

What is the cheapest option for a small business?+

ManyChat has a truly free plan, but it is limited (25 contacts) and not designed for WhatsApp customer service. Wando has an affordable entry plan and a 14-day free trial with no card required. Whaticket and Cliengo have free trials, but their minimum plan is more expensive.

What is the difference between a flow chatbot and an AI that learns?+

A flow chatbot (like Wati or Whaticket) requires you to program each branch of the conversation: if the customer says A, you reply X. An AI that learns (like Wando) understands free language and suggests responses based on what you have already replied, without you having to program anything.

Can I use several tools at the same time?+

Technically yes, but I do not recommend it: each one has its own contact database and setup. Better to choose one that covers your needs and stick with it.

What if my team is just one person?+

Then you need to look at the plans carefully: Whaticket requires a minimum of 3 users, so you pay for two you do not use. Wando and ManyChat have plans for a single user.

What if I need to integrate with other tools I already use?+

That depends on which ones you use. Wati has many integrations, Wando has webhooks to Make, Zapier, n8n, and Slack, plus Google Sheets and Mercado Pago. Check each one's integration list before deciding.
